Source: MHSAA The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA), with support from Manitoba’s credit unions, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Credit Unions of Manitoba High School Scholar Athlete Awards. These $1,000.00 scholarships are awarded to four graduating high school student athletes, chosen from among 40 nominees who maintained a minimum 85% average and compete in at least two interscholastic sports. Other criteria include school, community, volunteer, and citizenship activities. This year’s Scholar Athlete Awards were won by Ciara Zarn of Killarney Collegiate, Danielle Hanke of Neepawa Area Collegiate, Lana Mackic of Miles Macdonell Collegiate and Matthew Klassen of Glenboro School. Matthew, who was also named the MHSAA’s ‘A’ Male Athlete of the Year and overall Male Athlete of the Year, is the son of Sunrise Credit Union EVP and Assistant CEO Tim Klassen. The presentation took place last Thursday, June 23, at a ceremony hosted by Her Honour, the Honourable Janice C. Filmon, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba at Government House. Awards were presented by the Lieutenant Governor Janice C. Filmon, Premier Brian Pallister, Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association President Mr. Chris Gudziunas (Assistant Superintendent of Hanover School Division) and Mr. Kurtis Brown of Oak Bank Credit Union.
